Cherry Dream Cake

Ingredients

Cake
  • 2 Cups King Arthur Flour
  • 1 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 2 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder, with tarte powder use 3 teaspoons
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Shortening
  • 3/4 Cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Lemon Extract
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon Almond Extract
  • 3 Egg Whites, unbeaten
  • 1/2 Cup Walnuts, chopped
  • 18 Cherries, well drained & cut very fine
Frosting
  • 1 Cup Crisco
  • 2 Pounds Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Butter Flavored Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Almond Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 3/4 Cup Half & Half

Recipe

Cake

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl.  Beat shortening and add buttermilk and extracts, then beat.  Add egg whites and beat.  Add cherries and blend chopped walnuts.  Bake at 325° for 25 - 35 minutes in 7x8 inch pan.  Embellished with cherries on top!

Frosting

Beat Crisco, then add powdered sugar and beat.  Add butter, almond, vanilla and half & half.  Beat until stiff peaks form.
